7. Do you do cake tastings and consultations? Cake tastings and consultations are done by appointment and include three 6" round x 2" tall cakes of your choice (see example photo below). Tastings and consultations are done in the comfort of your own home. Biodegradable plates, forks and napkins are provided. The fee for the one-hour tasting and consultation within the service areas is $50.00 and is due in full one week prior to the appointment. 8. Are your cakes and desserts prepared on shared equipment? Although Sweet and Organic takes precautions to clean and avoid cross-contact, yes, cakes and desserts are prepared on equipment also used to prepare products containing eggs, dairy, gluten, soy and nuts.
9. Are all of your products vegan, natural, organic and kosher? Are all of your ingredients "green"? Without compromise, all of the cakes, fillings, frostings and desserts are vegan and all-natural. Organic and certified kosher ingredients are always used when the ingredient is manufactured, produced or grown as organic and/or kosher. Sweet and Organic strives to purchase ingredients that come from companies that use fair trade and sustainable business practices.
There are some optional external decorations (fondant, gumpaste and brilliant decorative colors) that are certified kosher but contain artificial ingredients. The manufacturers have asserted that these items do not contain (nor processed with) any animal or insect products or by-products. However, please note that the sugar in the fondant and gumpaste is refined, and the manufacturers would not disclose the brand of sugar due to proprietary reasons. These items are only used by specific request and after discussing the above.
10. What is the best way to preserve my top tier or leftover cake? First remove the base board. Then wrap the cake lightly in plastic wrap. Freeze for one hour. Remove the first wrap and replace it with a fresh wrap (this time snugly to get as much air out as possible). Freeze the cake again. When you are ready to enjoy the cake again, defrost it in the fridge (still in the plastic wrap) for four hours (for smaller portions, one hour will suffice). Then remove the wrap, and defrost at room temperature for one hour.
